Mercedes V12 To Go Silent, AMG To Take Over

Autoweek quotes that Mercedes Benz has decided to handover its prestigious art of making V12 engine to its in- house tuner AMG. Due to environmental concerns and rising fuel prices, automobile firms are downsizing their massive engine to get better efficiency. As for the new BMW M5, they have reduced the engine from beautiful V10 to turbocharged V8.  Likewise Mercedes has decided to stop the production of its own V12 engine.

However in contrast the brand which is synonymous with performance ,the AMG is well suited to build  its biggest and smoothest powerplants. AMG has a charismatic history of  delivering high performance engine since the very beginning. Even Pagani couldn’t escape the gravity of  it’s spectacular engineering, which is why they preferred to use V12 crafted by AMG for Huayra instead of making their own.… Read More…

Did You Know: Mercedes Cars Are Named After An Austrian Girl

Mercedes-JellinekIn 1897, Austrian businessman Emil Jellinek, traveled from his home in Nice, France to purchase a car from the Daimler factory in Cannstatt, Germany. On his return to the French Riviera, his sporting Daimler Phoenix caused such a sensation that he decided to enter it into a local touring competition, under the name of “Mercedes” after his favorite 9 year old daughter. Realizing the business potential for the new car, he not only placed an order for 36 more, but also secured the franchise for selling them in several countries. Gottlieb Daimler also agreed to having them sold under the name of “Mercedes.”

The Mercedes trade name was registered after Daimler’s death in 1900 and the 3-pointed star became the trade mark. Daimler had once drawn the emblem on a postcard to his wife, the star symbolizing the growth of the business into transport on land, sea and air.… Read More…

The Greatest Road Race In the World

The time is 8am in Brescia,Italy. Augusto Turati, secretary of the national fascist party officially inaugurated it. 77 drivers battling head to head and at the end of 1628km, only 55 drivers made it to the finish line.

As the race commenced, Aymo Maggi, the local talented favorite, along with Bindo Maserati (one of the 5 Maserati brothers) took the lead in a ISOTTA FRASCHINI 8A SS, a luxury Italian carmaker back in its ripe days. But then just 30 minutes into the race and the ALFA ROMEO RL SS took a whopping 14 minute lead against the Isotta .

The ALFA even passed Fernando Minoia’s OM 123, an unparalleled legend of his time. After 587km, Brilli-Peri in his ALFA still held onto the lead averaging a 106.8kmph. But Peri stretched it too far and had to retire mid-way through due to a blown engine. This sent 25000 viewers ecstasic as they screamed louder than Minoia’s OM 123 as it swooshed past the overly-dominant ALFA.… Read More…

Mercedes’ long Awaited Compact Sedan Unveiled !

After quite a wait, we’re set to witness the unmasking of Mercedez-Benz’s long awaited compact sedan, which made a brief appearance at Avant/Garde Diaries event in Los Angeles today following yesterday’s leaked photos. The showcar, which has been dubbed the “Concept Styled Couped”  < CSC> is expected to debut at the Beijing Motor Show next week.
