Epiphanic Echoes #3: Car Philosophies From An Alfista

Today’s topic: On why the DELTAWING was TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!

There are two problems with proposing a revolutionary idea in this vast engineering playground. Firstly, there aren’t any! Before you could even begin to ink the idea as a result of your lucid dreaming, some bloke from another land would’ve already accomplished what you wanted to.

Secondly, and this is the more itchy one- As society, our reflex tells us to completely ridicule any sign of ingenuity when it presents itself through the eyes of a visionary. Naming the likes of Leonardo Davinci, Wright brothers, Marie Curey, justifies what I’m trying to say.… Read More…

Formula 1: A Sport Of Glamour, Heroism And Mind Games!

In the world of Formula 1, there are only two things that exist since it’s inception back in 1946- Ferrari, and powerful rivalry. Rivalry- Now don’t be mistaken for a moment that Formula 1 speaks highly about healthy competition and sets itself as a sparkling example of spirit, hope, strength and friendship. NO! The latter is spoken about only in hush whispers. Competition is only skin deep. Rivalry and enmity, now that’s the cream that goes down the history books more often than success stories, vicariously that we all like to live. After all, “The evil that men do lives on.”… Read More…

Tech Talk: KERS

First of all, tell me what is KERS?

KERS stands for ‘Kinetic Energy Recovery System’ and in short its main aim is to harness the kinetic energy of the vehicle (which is lost in form of heat under braking) , stores it in some other form energies(like electrical or rotational ) that can boost acceleration by pressing a button on the steering wheel under acceleration. Now a days this system is not very common in road-cars but it is extensively used in racecars. Actually the whole idea of  harnessing the kinetic energy was invented way back in 50s when physicist Richard Feynman proposed an idea of storing vehicles kinetic energy by the use of flywheel but no serious attempts were made in field of energy recovery until 2006 when the FIA, F1’s governing body, elected to allow teams to integrate Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) into their vehicles starting in the 2009 racing season. And this rule forced the engineers to brainstorm and come up with an efficient yet lite weight KERS system.… Read More…

An Ode To The Red Master – Schumacher ‘Ferrari’ Michael

Michael Schumacher

They said 2012 has to be the end of the world. I never believed the protagonists who backed the theory. And then there was the day, the 4thof October, Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from the epitome of motorsports. You do not have to be a Martin Brundle to know the greatness of one of the truest ambassadors of the sport. Schumacher has become the starting letter for describing the consistency, dedication and passion of a person towards his work. And we are sad that we no longer will be able to look out for that Cherry colored helmet in one of the cockpits.… Read More…

Nico Rosberg Explaining The Evolution Of F1 Helmets

nico-rosberg-helmet-videoMany of you may have seen the bone crushing F1 crashes.  You may relate to how the initial shock quickly transforms into relief when you see the driver emerging unscathed after banging the side walls at a furious speed of 300 km/hr, or crashing head-on with other driver in an explosive instant. This drama, where relief usually prevails is perhaps owed to the most important equipment of the sport: the driver’s helmet. What parameters were judged? What standards were met before drivers were assured of maximum safety levels as they stepped into the arena?… Read More…
