On a day when the championship holder Fernando Alonso and runner up Mark Webber could only  muster their respective Ferrari and Red Bull to an appreciative fifth and eight position respectively, the Lotuses once again proved why they are being tipped as one of the favorites for the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship. They gave Lewis Hamilton a good run for his third victory this season with  a 1 sec gap between him and the second placed Lotus Finn Kimi Raikonnen.

The race at the Hungarigong began with huge expectation of yet another fascinating battle between the top three giants; Red Bull, Ferrari and Mclaren.  Too add to it, coming into this weekend McLaren was the one under the radar for Martin Whitmarsh (McLaren Team Principal) had spoke about the little tweeaks in the Mclaren car. Formula 1- Hamilton Claims Pole Position Again

The 27-year-old F1 racer from Hertfordshire qualified fastest in hot and humid Malaysia this morning (Saturday) for his 21st pole of his career.

Jenson Button will complete an all-McLaren front row – just as in Australia.

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver from Herts clocked a flying lap of 1m 36.2s around the Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur to bag provisional pole position on his first run in Q3.

The McLaren pitwall told Hamilton: “You are currently P1 by 0.4s. Great job.”

F1: Lotus Reveals 2012 Car With Controversial Stepped Nose

Lotus have officially unveiled the new car with which returning 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen and team mate Romain Grosjean will contest the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship. The UK-based team hope the E20 – the 20th F1 chassis built at their Enstone factory – will allow them to improve on the fifth place they achieved as Renault last season.

“We are very proud to kick off our 2012 campaign under the name of Lotus F1 Team, continuing with the evocative black and gold livery which made such a well-received return to Grands Prix in 2011,” commented Chairman Gerard Lopez.
