While observing details of a car on a TV show or reading about it from magazine one often comes across “Naturally Aspirated Engine”.
But what is a “N. A. E.” (Naturally Aspirated Engine)?
Let me tell you :
“Naturally Aspirated” means “Self Breathing” is a type of reciprocating IC engine which doesn’t need any type of forced induction of air either by the help of mechanically driven supercharger or exhaust driven turbocharger.
This type of engine depends solely on atmospheric pressure which counters the partial vacuum created during induction stroke & thus facilitating the air to the ignition chamber via intake manifold.
So basically naturally aspirated engine produces Raw, Unadulterated, Unaided power.
Now a question arises:
Which one is better, a turbocharged or supercharged engine or N.A.E. ?
So, when comparing a N.A.E. with Turbo or Super charged engine of same displacement, the N.A.E. will generally gives less power.
But N.A.E. has some advantage over turbo or super charged engine. When using turbo or super charger , an engine may not last long due to added pressure inside the cylinder also it is difficult to maintain a turbocharged or supercharged engine as it needs regular attention.
Last but not least turbo engine creates some lag while starting from rest in comparison to the same displacement of N.A.E.
We hope that this helps to answer the question” What is N.A.E. and which one is better”?
